Interpreting Theory and Practice

In this course, students will study concepts, methods, approaches and techniques of specialized interpreting and develop the skills to solve professional tasks and interpret in various spheres, such as education, business, industry, science, public policy and social services.

  • • analyse field-related linguistic and extra-linguistic problems when interpreting and develop adequate interpreting strategies to solve them • perform linguistic and extra-linguistic analysis of speech in order to recognize and find solutions to the problems of cross-cultural asymmetry • perform self-management and develop psychological resistance, personal qualities and professional competences to improve professional skills of interpreters • apply methods and techniques of specialized interpreting, including mnemonics, interpreter’s shorthand writing methods, semantic development and compression, methods of increasing adequacy when interpreting specialized texts • select approaches and techniques of interpreting, identify their effectiveness and estimate results of interpreting
